POC, a leading manufacturer of helmets, eyewear, body armor, apparel and accessories has been chosen as the ‘Brand of the year 2017’ by the Bicycle Brand Contest (BBC).
The Bicycle Brand Contest, established by the German Design Council, focuses on companies in the bicycle industry and their partners. The winners, which are selected as an acknowledgement of excellent product and communication design in the industry, are chosen by an independent jury of experts.

The jury also awarded POCs latest mountain bike/trail helmet, Tectal Race, a helmet ‘category winner’ award.

Jury decision – Tectal Race
Tectal Race was developed for racing on demanding off-road terrain. Intelligently arranged, the functional design and the use of high-quality materials ensure the highest degree of stability, safety and comfort. Excellent aerodynamic properties combined with generous vents throughout the entire helmet shell ensure excellent ventilation and a pleasant internal climate. At the same time, the helmet is very light. Details such as reflectors and mounting clips for racing goggles round off the obviously carefully thought-out design. A highly developed helmet which unmistakably stands out from the competition both technically and thanks to its exemplary brand management, which is perfectly reflected in its distinctive design.
Jury decision – Brand of the year
The brand is a major factor in a company’s success. Yet only through stringent brand management does a brand ultimately gain the strength to stand out from the competition. The shape that excellent brand work can take was exhibited by POC several years ago, in the form of its superbly designed ski helmets. Since then, the company has also begun, amongst other things, to offer helmets for cyclists. For this, it has from the outset consistently pursued a holistic brand strategy approach that extends deeply into the design of the products and uses striking, recurring design features to make them immediately identifiable as helmets from POC.
