POC is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a host industry awards at SIA and ISPO for several of its 2017/18 snow season innovations. SPIN
, which is a brand new patent pending helmet technology created to counter the effects of oblique impacts, was awarded the ‘Outside - gear of the show’ award at SIA and POC Layer
, which is a cut resistant performance base layers for ski racers, has been chosen as an ISPO ‘Gold Winner’.
POC which has built a reputation on safety, innovation and design was founded in 2005 in Sweden with a mission; ‘to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists’.
Oscar Huss, head of product development at POC, said
– “We are humbled and invigorated by these awards. The POC mission is at the very centre of our development process and we are particularily excited to see SPIN recognised with the ‘Outside - Gear of the show’ award as it introduces a new level of helmet technology, comfort and protection and will feature in a host of our 17/18 season helmets.
By working with our medical experts in POC Lab we could see that oblique impacts are common and can cause serious head injury due to a rotation of the helmet and head. SPIN pads, which stands for ‘Shearing Pad INside, are optimized to provide rotational impact protection based on the precise location inside the helmet and which can shear in any direction allowing the helmet to move relative to the head.”
In addition to SPIN, one of the new helmets featuring SPIN pads, the Auric cut Backcountry SPIN
, which brings a new level of technology to performance and race goggle lenses, took awards for Best of Show award (freeskier) and "Hot Gear" (Ski).
Ahead of ISPO
we are also proud to announce that our new performance and protection base layer, POC Layer
has been chosen as an ISPO Gold Winner.
Oscar Huss, head of product development at POC, added “Over the last ten years POC has developed a wealth of knowledge around technology, materials and design and POC Layer, a base layer system to protect ski racers from the cuts, abrasions and injuries typically associated with ski racing, is a direct result of all our experience. POC layer is innovative as it is a base layer that maintains a high level of functionality: comfort, breathability, compression, warmth and wicking, but also integrates Dyneema® fabric which adds a significant level of cut resistance and protection for ski racers.”
