The much loved and admired legend of the pro cycling peloton, Jens Voigt, has always had a soft spot for his American fans. So much so he will return to Marin County, California on September 24th, 2016 to host his annual Gran Fondo “The Jensie”.
In its second year, The Jensie Gran Fondo of Marin, will take place at the Stafford Lake Bike Park and host three rides of 40, 70 and 100 miles respectively, offering keen road cyclists of all abilities the opportunity to experience an extraordinary day.
“Marin County was chosen because it ticks all the boxes; it’s big, it’s beautiful and it has all the facilities needed to make the Jensie a memorable and great day out,” said Voigt. “Imagine Marin’s best and most scenic roads & climbs combined with the best local food, finished off with my favorite bit, the local beer.
The inaugural Jensie Gran Fondo set itself apart from other Gran Fondo events because of the customization and personal experience that each rider was able to have. Voigt explains, “We made sure the ride with me was as interactive as possible. I wanted to ride and talk to as many people as I could during the day. It was a great day and I enjoyed getting to talk to so many of you.” This year riders will also enjoy riding with pro cyclist Laurens ten Dam and recently retired pro cyclist Ted King, who will be representing Jensie Gran Fondo sponsors POC, Velocio, and UnTapped as he leads the 100-mile “Shut Up Legs” route.
Event proceeds will again benefit The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC), whose work in the county provides safer cycling routes and more bike access, on and off road. MCBC will also be a critical part of the event’s success by providing volunteer staff throughout the event.
